Pathologists reported on the impact of COVID-19 on human organs
First of all, the coronavirus affects the lungs, causing massive edema of this organ. This was stated by the chief pathologist of the Clinical Hospital of Irkutsk Lyudmila Grishina on the air of the TV channels “Russia 1” and “Russia 24”.
According to the TV channel, citing doctors, the standard weight of one lung is about 350 grams, and in victims of COVID-19 it can increase to two kilograms.
“Massive edema appears. Microcirculation is impaired, which leads to hemorrhage into the lumen of the alveoli, ”Grishina said.
According to her, often coronavirus infection leads to the death of the patient due to a sudden blockage of the pulmonary artery: this is how blood stops flowing to the lungs. Also, morgue staff reported that the cause of death is often multiple organ failure, when the virus infects all tissues and organs.
Earlier, the head of the Russian Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, said that as a result of the postponed coronavirus infection, not only the lungs but also the heart suffer. He said that those who had been ill needed rehabilitation in order to return to their usual way of life.
