Onishchenko reacted to the destruction of Russian ventilators in the United States
The former chief sanitary doctor of Russia, Gennady Onishchenko, reacted to the destruction of 45 Russian artificial lung ventilation devices (IVL) in the United States, calling this step disrespectful and disregard for ethical principles. He stated this in an interview with the Vzglyad newspaper on Tuesday, October 20.
“The US really has a different system. In order to use an outlet there, Russians have to use an adapter. But if this is really the case, then the excuse is not very convincing. This is first of all a policy, and an absolutely primitive one, ”said the State Duma deputy.
According to him, it was possible to solve the problem with a special adapter that would allow connecting Russian devices. Onishchenko noted that, apparently, the American side had no desire to look for ways out of the situation.
The deputy also stressed that the United States should not have “shown disdain in such a demonstrative way,” even if they did not need ventilators. At the same time, he considered this situation not surprising, since Washington “has long neglected ethical principles and motives.”
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) previously explained the destruction of 45 Russian ventilators in the United States. Disposal was associated with the fact that they were not used in hospitals due to the improvement in the situation with the coronavirus.
Earlier, BuzzFeed wrote that the ventilators were disposed of after being stored in a warehouse for some time as spare equipment. They were allegedly not used for a number of reasons: first, the difference in voltage in the electrical networks of the United States and Russia did not allow the use of devices without special adapters that American hospitals did not have. Second, several ventilators of this particular model caught fire and caused fires in Russian hospitals, as a result of which six people died.
