A high-profile murder was committed in the Leningrad region last weekend: in the village of Velikoye, a killer shot a well-known businessman in the region, municipal deputy Alexander Petrov. The investigation believes that Alexander Petrov was shot from the opposite bank of the river when he was at his site and went out into the street. Only one bullet entrance hole was found on the body of the killed: the shot hit right in the heart. It is possible that the killer used a weapon with a telescopic sight. Taking into account the circumstances of the crime, the investigation concluded that it was ordered in nature. The investigation into the murder for hire was put under control by the head of the ICR, Alexander Bastrykin, and employees of the central office have been working at the scene since Sunday.
There is no information about the motives for the murder yet. However, recently a criminal case was opened in Vyborg on the theft of 700 million rubles. during the repair and restoration of buildings in the city. At the time of the murder, 61-year-old Alexander Petrov was a municipal deputy of the 16th district in Vyborg. He was also listed as the owner or co-owner of 26 enterprises. The largest of them are Vyborg Shipyard JSC and Vyborg Fuel Company JSC. In addition, he owned a sports club, a landfill, a terminal in the port of Murmansk, a hotel, and was engaged in real estate. In the 1990s, Mr. Petrov was allegedly a member of the group of Ilya Traber, who was then engaged in the antique business in St. Petersburg. Together with Ilya Traber, Alexander Petrov allegedly was engaged in power entrepreneurship. However, Mr. Traber sued journalists who attributed illegal activities to him, and even demanded that they be brought to justice for libel.
Alexander Petrov has two sons. One of them, Vitaly Petrov, was the first Russian driver in Formula 1 races. The racer competed from 2010 to 2013. Mr. Petrov partially paid for his son’s performances, and for some time Vitaly Petrov’s sponsor was the Vyborg Shipyard.
