TASS: EU ambassadors agree on new sanctions against Lukashenka and Belarusian officials
Permanent representatives of 27 EU member states have agreed on new sanctions against the Belarusian authorities, TASS reported, citing sources. According to them, restrictive measures are also envisaged, including against the country’s President Alexander Lukashenko.
“The ambassadors approved a new black list, which includes representatives of the authorities, including Lukashenka,” said the source. The source did not specify what the new sanctions imply.
A month earlier, the leaders of the EU countries agreed on sanctions against the authorities of Belarus. The reason for them was “falsification of elections and violation of human rights in the country.” About 40 officials of the country were blacklisted, but President Alexander Lukashenko was not on it. Later, in Brussels, they allowed the introduction of restrictive measures in relation to the head of state if the situation in Belarus does not improve. So far, the authorities of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have imposed sanctions against Mr. Lukashenko directly.
