Hospital construction rules will change in view of the pandemic

The Ministry of Construction plans to change the rules for designing hospitals, taking into account the experience of the pandemic, the press service of the Ministry of Construction said. This should help reduce the risk of nosocomial infection and improve fire safety in buildings, they noted.

What will change:

“Excessive requirements” for the number of individual boxes when admitting infectious patients will be canceled. Difficulties with boxes, for example, are in the north of the country – because of low temperatures, double external vestibules are needed there.

Optimized the distance between buildings, reduced the distance from buildings to red lines – buildings that are outside the hospital complex. The requirement for a minimum distance of 30 m from hulls to red lines will be canceled.

Requirements for space-planning solutions have been improved. This will affect the organization of streams and the device of sanitary checkpoints.

The requirements for the reception and hospitalization rooms for infectious patients, ward departments, laboratories, areas of robotic operating rooms and departments of preventive disinfection and cleaning are determined.

The requirements for the organization of air exchange have been established.

For buildings made of pre-fabricated structures, where the minimum width of the corridors is set, exceptions are allowed – in some cases, the width may be less than the norm.

“I am sure that the experience of designing infectious diseases hospitals in the Moscow region and hospitals of the Ministry of Defense will provide the necessary response not only to the current living and working conditions in the conditions of the spread of COVID-19, but also to any new challenges of such acute respiratory infections. In other words, if someday we face similar challenges, the construction industry will already be adapted to meet the needs of the population and function in difficult conditions, ”said Dmitry Volkov, Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Utilities.
