Putin approved the creation of a base for ships with nuclear installations in Africa
Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the government’s proposal to establish a base for ships with nuclear installations in Africa. The point of material and technical support of the Russian Navy will be located in Sudan. The corresponding document was published on the Internet portal of legal information.
The President also instructed the Ministry of Defense to sign the agreement on behalf of the Russian Federation.
Earlier in November, it was reported that Sudan would provide a territory for the Russian Navy station free of charge, on which no more than four ships could be deployed, including those with a nuclear power plant. The number of personnel at the base should not exceed 300 people.
In July, Putin spoke of plans to equip the Navy with unique hypersonic strike systems. He noted that the combat capabilities of the Navy will increase “due to the widespread introduction of advanced digital technologies.” The head of state also promised to transfer 40 new ships to the Navy.
