The mutation rate of the coronavirus is significantly lower than that of the seasonal flu virus. Such data were presented by the head of the state scientific center “Vector” Rinat Maksyutov during the Science Bar Hopping Online festival, the agency “Moscow” reports.

“We state that there are practically no changes in this virus, that is, with a genome of 30 thousand nucleotides (…) the number of changes between any two strains that we take is no more than 30, that is, no more than 0.1 percent.” , – the chapter “Vector” has compared the variability of viruses.

He assured that the SARS-CoV-2 virus has not undergone significant changes since the beginning of the pandemic. “The entire spectrum of such research is actually carried out by us online, and at the moment we do not see significant changes that would cause us any concerns,” concluded Maksyutov.

Earlier, the director of the center announced the end date of the coronavirus pandemic. According to him, the large-scale spread of the virus will stop in 2021. By this time, sufficient collective immunity will be formed, and for this it is necessary to vaccinate about half of the population.

In Russia, more than 26 thousand new cases of coronavirus were detected per day. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 2,269,316 cases of coronavirus have been registered in the country. Over the entire period of the spread of the infection in Russia, 39,527 deaths were detected, 1,761,457 people recovered.
