In St. Petersburg, there is a shortage of antiviral drugs used, among other things, for the treatment of the coronavirus COVID-19, Governor Alexander Beglov said. He also reported a shortage of doctors. In general, he called the epidemiological situation in the city tense and warned of a possible tightening of restrictions.

He also commented on the situation in the city’s medical facilities. “The staff deficit is felt most of all in the outpatient department. If we talk about hospitals, in general, the staffs are recruited, there is a slight shortage of nurses, X-ray laboratory assistants, from medical specialties, anesthesiologists are most needed, ”he added. According to him, more than 2.5 thousand senior students of medical universities have already been attracted to help doctors.

Now, according to the authorities, about 6% of the bed capacity in the city remains free for patients with COVID-19. “If necessary, we in St. Petersburg can increase the number of beds at the expense of hospitals, which today provide planned assistance,” – said the governor.

Also, Alexander Beglov announced his readiness to tighten the existing restrictions in the event of a worsening situation in the city with the coronavirus. “Once again, I want to draw your attention to the fact that beds and doctors are not endless, if the load increases, we will simply tighten the measures,” he said.

Earlier today, the administration of St. Petersburg published a new list of restrictions. In particular, from December 4, water parks, aquariums will be closed, from December 14, classes on additional general developmental programs are prohibited, from December 30 to January 3, all catering establishments, museums, theaters, and specific sites will be closed.

St. Petersburg remains in second place among Russian regions in terms of both the number of people infected and the number of deaths.
