Medvedev calls EU statements about Russian disinformation about coronavirus stupid
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called stupid and illogical accusations of Russia of spreading misinformation about the coronavirus. According to him, Russia has proven by deeds that it is ready to counter COVID-19 shoulder to shoulder with other parties.
“These stupid accusations are beyond logic and common sense. And even beyond good and evil. Their immorality, given the tragic consequences of the global pandemic, which has affected the fate of tens of millions of people around the planet, is obvious, ”wrote Mr Medvedev on Facebook.
According to Mr. Medvedev, the EU is trying to write off internal problems as “the intrigues of external enemies.” With accusations against Russia, the EU created “an informational background for the introduction of censorship and illegal restrictions against unwanted journalists,” he wrote. Mr. Medvedev did not specify what restrictions are being discussed.
The reason for criticism from Dmitry Medvedev was the European Democracy Action Plan (.pdf), presented by the European Commission on December 3. The authors of the document noted that foreign actors from third countries, in particular from Russia and China, participated in disinformation campaigns about COVID-19. At the same time, it also notes the risk of increasing disinformation carried out by forces within the EU.
