Poroshenko advised Zelensky to kneel in front of Putin
Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko advised his successor, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, to kneel in front of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin – he said that this is the only way he will be able to achieve peace in Donbass. The politician stated this in an interview with the Espresso TV channel.
He noted that in order to achieve peace, it is not enough just to stop shooting, according to the “big experts” who are in the office of the Ukrainian leader. “This can be done in two weeks, you need to look Putin in the eye, see the world there, kneel down and ask for peace,” the politician said.
Poroshenko assured that he supposedly knows Putin well, and he, according to him, does not harbor warm feelings either for Ukraine or its citizens.
It is known that Zelensky previously expressed his readiness to make the said gesture – on March 1, 2014, he turned to Putin after the Russian Federation Council agreed on a permit for the use of Russian troops in Ukraine. “I really want to appeal to Mr Putin. Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich! Do not allow even a hint of a military conflict on your part. Because Russia and Ukraine are truly fraternal peoples. (…) If you want, I can beg you on my knees. But please don’t bring our people to your knees, ”Zelensky said then.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team of failing to resolve the situation in the southeast.
The conflict in Donbass began in 2014, when part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions declared independence after the change of the central government in Ukraine. Kiev accuses Russia of occupying these territories. Moscow rejects the claim.
