Russian virologists dispelled a dangerous myth about coronavirus
It is a dangerous myth that smoking makes it easier for the coronavirus. It was dispelled by the head of the laboratory of the Ivanovsky Research Institute of Virology, Alexander Butenko, reports URA.RU.
According to Butenko, smoking worsens the patient’s condition, because of this, resinous substances accumulate in the lungs and cause additional harm.
Butenko’s words were confirmed by Alexey Agranovsky, professor of the Department of Virology at Moscow State University. He added that “smoking never leads to anything good.”
The head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova also spoke about the dangers of smoking. According to her, in case of coronavirus, everything that irritates the lungs, including tobacco smoke, will be harmful.
In November, Oksana Drapkina, the chief freelance therapist of the Ministry of Health, said that smoking leads to the development of diseases that can complicate the course of coronavirus, and even more so it does not reduce the likelihood of infection. According to her, this habit can cause arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, which will create a poor prognosis for a patient with COVID-19.
