Climatologist predicted the dangerous consequences of a winter with little snow in Russia
As a result of a winter with little snow in a number of regions of Russia, rivers can become shallow, which in turn will lead to drought. Such dangerous consequences were predicted by Ekaterina Pestryakova, candidate of geographical sciences, teacher of the Chelyabinsk State University, member of the Russian Geographical Society, meteorologist, climatologist, in an interview with URA.RU.
“This is scary. Rivers are just beginning in the Urals. This threatens with lack of water. And we feed on the reservoirs, and they are small in the Urals, “- explained the specialist.
According to her, as a result of the prevailing weather conditions, the region may face drought in the future. At the same time, she expressed the hope that a drought, similar to the one that was observed in the USSR in the early 1970s, would not recur in Russia.
Earlier in December, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, warned Russians that the length of the seasons could change dramatically in the coming years due to climate change. In particular, the forecaster pointed out that the number of days with an average daily temperature below zero, that is, the winter period, is decreasing.
