Vaccination of Russians over 60 years of age against coronavirus may begin next week, Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko announced in an interview with the Vesti Nedeli program on the Russia 1 TV channel. He is quoted by TASS on Sunday, December 20.
“Yes, we hope so,” said Murashko, answering the question if vaccination of elderly Russians could begin next week.
The minister specified that clinical trials of the vaccine among people over 60 are now being completed.
At the end of November, the head of the Vector State Scientific Center Rinat Maksyutov announced that 50 volunteers over 60 years old had already received a dose of the EpiVacCorona coronavirus vaccine. At the same time, research on the drug continues.
On December 5, mass vaccination against coronavirus started in Moscow. Initially, vaccinations are given to at-risk teachers, doctors and city workers. From Monday, December 21, the program will be extended to workers in transport, energy, industry and the media. The head of the Gamaleya Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, which developed the Sputnik V vaccine, Alexander Gintsburg, said that the duration of immunity would be more than two years.
