Russia and Belarus agreed on gas prices
The agreement was signed by the head of Gazprom Alexey Miller and the Minister of Energy of Belarus. In late spring, Miller said that Minsk owed more than $ 165 million for gas, and gave the go-ahead to continue deliveries in 2021 only after paying the debt.
Russia and Belarus signed an agreement, according to which the procedure for setting prices for gas supplied to Belarus was determined. This was reported by the press service of “Gazprom”.
The document was signed in St. Petersburg. The meeting was attended by Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, Vladimir Semashko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia, and Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich.
“The procedure for setting prices for the supply of natural gas to Belarus in 2021 has been determined,” the message says.
RBC sent a request to Gazprom.
The Ministry of Energy of Belarus sent a letter to its head Alexei Miller with a proposal to discuss the gas pricing methodology from 2021 in early summer. A few days earlier, Miller said that Belarus owed Gazprom more than $ 165 million for the supplied natural gas. He indicated that negotiations on the continuation of supplies in 2021 would be held only after the debt was paid off. The Belarusian Energy Ministry has denied the existence of debt. They noted that settlements for gas are carried out in accordance with the agreements between the Belarusian gas supply companies and Gazprom Transgaz Belarus. The department explained that disagreements arose between business entities on “determining the cost of the supplied natural gas, taking into account its calorific value.”
In September, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that Minsk and Moscow had reached an “agreement in principle” on the issue of paying off the debt for Russian gas supplies. “This should be done during September, maybe it will work earlier than at the end of the month. There are many technical questions, ”he said.
In mid-October, Gazprom’s subsidiary Gazprom Transgaz Belarus stated that Belarus had not fully paid for gas. Despite the fact that the press secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Energy Olga Kozlovich said that the Belarusian side fully paid for the volume of raw materials provided from January to September, the company reported that it had not paid a penalty for late payment.
