Russia may introduce a deferral for mortgage and consumer loans for military personnel
The head of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market Anatoly Aksakov has prepared a draft law on deferring consumer and mortgage loans for conscripts. The government is ready to give a positive opinion on the document when it is finalized, Interfax reports.
“The draft law provides for the right for borrowers who are military personnel doing military service on conscription, as well as cadets of military professional educational organizations and military educational institutions of higher education … to apply to the lender with a request to change the terms of such agreements, providing for the suspension of the fulfillment of obligations or a reduction in the amount of payments” , – the document says.
The government supports the bill if it is finalized. The Cabinet raised questions about the possibility of granting deferrals for military cadets. “It is not clear why cadets of military professional educational organizations and military educational institutions of higher education, training in which takes place solely on a voluntary expression of will, are provided with the same benefits as military personnel whose conscription is due to circumstances beyond their control,” – the conclusion says. Also, the government notes that military cadets are not less solvent than students of other educational institutions, which puts them in an unequal position when granting loan deferrals.
