Aliyev announced plans to build a transport corridor to Turkey through Armenia
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced plans to form a transport corridor between Azerbaijan and Turkey. This corridor will pass through Armenia, the first instructions on its preparation have already been given.
In the coming days, it is planned to begin construction of a railway from Azerbaijani Horadiz to Zangilan, located on the border with Armenia. A road has already been paved between the two Azerbaijani cities “in a short time”, Mr. Aliyev said at a meeting with a Turkish delegation led by Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.
The construction of the railway will take “maximum two years,” the President of Azerbaijan specified. According to him, you can not wait for the end of this period and carry out transportation to Horadiz by rail, and then – using large-capacity vehicles.
“I believe and I am confident that we can send primary cargoes through the territory of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nakhichevan to Turkey and receive them in the opposite direction. Thus, the opening of the Nakhichevan corridor will be realized, which is an important part of the trilateral statement signed on November 10, ”said Ilham Aliyev (quoted by RIA Novosti).
In late September, the military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia escalated in Nagorno-Karabakh. On November 10, the parties, with the support of Russia, signed a peace agreement on a ceasefire. The agreement assumed, in particular, the transfer of a part of the territories to Azerbaijan and the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into Karabakh.
