The e-passport project will begin testing in Moscow
An electronic passport in a pilot mode in Moscow can begin to be issued until December 1, 2021. It will be a plastic card like a bank card with an electronic chip.
The document will complement a mobile application that will provide citizens with a qualified electronic signature and “will become the key to government and commercial services.” “This passport will be distinguished by a higher degree of security compared to paper, wear resistance, practicality, and if lost, it will be possible to quickly block it,” the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia quoted TASS as saying.
The main information from the e-passport can be read using a mobile application, the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted. The main parameters of the project, including the procedure for registration, issuance and use of an electronic passport, will be determined by the Ministry of Digital Affairs of Russia.
