Gazprom responded to rumors about the resignation of the head of the company Alexei Miller in 2021. The statement was made by his press secretary Sergei Kupriyanov, reports “Podyom”.

“We were not the source to which Kommersant refers, so I have nothing to say about this. If there were data, there would be something to refute, ”he said. Miller has been running the Russian gas monopoly for 20 years.

At the end of December 2020, the Kommersant newspaper wrote about a possible change in Gazprom’s leadership, citing its own sources. The publication indicated that Miller’s five-year contract expires in May 2021 and there are no plans to renew it.

Rumors about the possible resignation of the head of the company have been circulating for several years, but this time they are being fueled by the poor financial situation of Gazprom, the newspaper wrote. According to international financial reporting standards (IFRS) in January-September, the company’s loss amounted to 202 billion rubles against a profit of 1.1 trillion a year earlier.

The newspaper wrote that the final point in Miller’s career as head of Gazprom should be the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. At the end of last year, the company completed the laying of pipes in the exclusive economic zone of Germany. However, in January 2021, it became known that the project faced a new problem – the Norwegian company DNV GL refused to certify the gas pipeline due to the threat of US sanctions.
