Italians argued over “Evening Urgant”
New Year’s release of the program “Evening Urgant”, parodying pop shows of the 80s, caused controversy among Italians. The video posted on YouTube gained more than 3.7 million views in a few days and got into Russian and Italian trends.
A special edition called Ciao 2020! (“Goodbye, 2020!”), Designed in the Italian style. All band names and artist names have been changed. For example, the presenter Ivan Urgant became Giovanni Urganti. The rapper Niletto, singer Klava Koka, Olga Buzova, Yegor Creed, Little Big and other stars took part in the show.
The show was noticed by both ordinary Italians and the media. Most of them were delighted. “An incredible sight. Pure fun! ” – write the residents of Italy in the comments under the video, discussing which song they liked best. The newspaper La Repubblica, in turn, described the show as a comic masterpiece and grotesque satire. “But above all [it is] a declaration of love for Italy and our local melodic song,” the newspaper writes.
At the same time, some Italians did not agree with this assessment. “In Italy, such a show would cause a scandal because it is politically incorrect. The average Italian would not understand the irony, ”the users noted. The tgcom24 portal, for example, found that the Russians were making fun of Italian television. “They know us well, and therefore understand how to strike for the sake of bullying, which borders on fun,” – says the article.
Urgant himself, in an interview with TASS, suggested that the reason for the success of the show was that it was done with great love for Italy. “Many Italians began to write that they love Russia very much and to post the image of our flag. And this is exactly what I said in the introduction to this program: I would like the borders between our countries to be less accurately marked, ”he said.
