British strain of coronavirus identified in 22 European countries
A new, more contagious type of coronavirus has been registered in 22 European countries. This was stated at a briefing by the head of the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hans Kluge.
“22 countries in the European Region have discovered this new option,” he said.
Kluge noted that the coronavirus mutation spreads faster than the usual type, but does not affect the severity of the disease. The specialist also pointed out that the strain is transmitted among all age groups, children are not a high-risk group.
British authorities reported the appearance of a more contagious mutation in December. By the beginning of January, a new strain, according to WHO, was registered in 41 countries of the world. The WHO noted that it can spread more actively among the young population than the more “familiar” variant of the virus.
Rospotrebnadzor reported at the end of December that this strain is not yet available in Russia.
