Putin expressed his condolences to the President of Indonesia over the plane crash
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The telegram was published on the Kremlin website.
“Please accept my sincere condolences for the deaths of passengers and crew members of the plane that crashed off the coast of Java,” the message says.
A Sriwijaya Air liner crashed in the Java Sea near Male Island. The plane was flying from Jakarta to Pontianak. The liner disappeared from radar a few minutes after taking off from Jakarta airport.
The wreckage of the liner fell into the sea. Later it was reported that the wreckage of the plane and the remains of passengers were found in the Java Sea at a depth of 15–20 m.
According to the Russian Embassy in Indonesia, there were no Russians on board. The embassy cites data from the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency.
