The head of the HRC called the actions taking place in Russia a provocation
The head of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC) under the President of Russia, Valery Fadeev, said that the unauthorized actions taking place are a provocation and have nothing to do with the protection of rights.
“What we are seeing today has nothing to do with protecting rights or fighting for a better life. What we are seeing today is a provocation. What was announced a few days ago – the call of activists to go to Lubyanka, to Staraya Square, where the FSB buildings are located, where the presidential administration buildings are located – there is nothing behind this but a provocation, ”Valery Fadeev told TASS news agency.
He also noted that the HRC did not make an official decision to send observers to the actions. “Nikolai Karlovich (Svanidze – Kommersant), and Andrei Babushkin, as far as I know, now he will watch what is happening in the police stations, and Alexander Verkhovsky, as far as I know, have been there – they have traditionally attended such actions for many years in a personal capacity, ”said Valery Fadeev.
Rallies in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny are taking place throughout Russia. Protesters demand to release him from arrest. According to OVD-Info, more than 2.1 thousand people have already been detained.
