A participant in an uncoordinated rally in St. Petersburg was detained on suspicion of hitting an officer of the Russian Guard, the press service of the Investigative Department of the TFR in the city reports. A criminal case was initiated against him under Part 1 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of violence against a government official).
According to the investigators, on the afternoon of January 31, at Pionerskaya Square, a protester “hit the head of a riot policeman of the State Administration of the Russian Guard in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region at least twice in the head area, ensuring law and order, causing him physical pain and bodily harm.” Now the issue of arresting the suspect and bringing charges against him is being decided, the department said.
Actions in support of Alexei Navalny are held throughout Russia. The protesters demand to release the oppositionist from arrest. According to OVD-Info, more than 2.1 thousand people have already been detained.
