Russian Embassy in Germany responded to the expulsion of its diplomat from Berlin
The Russian Embassy in Germany responded to the expulsion of its diplomat from Berlin and the announcement of him persona non grata, TASS reports with reference to the message from the embassy.
The decision was considered baseless and unfriendly.
“On February 8, 2021, the representative of the Russian Embassy in Berlin was handed a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany announcing the announcement of one of the employees of the diplomatic mission persona non grata. We regard this decision as an unjustified and unfriendly step that does not contribute to the positive development of Russian-German relations, ”the message says.
The embassy protested, and also promised to give an adequate and proportionate response “to any unfriendly manifestations”. “We regret that lately Berlin has been increasingly resorting to openly confrontational gestures towards Russia,” the statement reads.
Earlier, Germany, Sweden and Poland announced the expulsion of Russian diplomats. The decision was a response to a similar move by Moscow. Russia announced the expulsion of diplomats from these three countries earlier in February. The protest is connected with the participation of representatives of European departments in unauthorized actions on January 23. The diplomats were declared persona non grata, and they will have to leave the country in the near future.
