The State Duma doubted Lukashenka’s honesty
It is not at all necessary to take the word of the incumbent President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at his word, since he has never provided assistance to Russia in international conflicts. This was stated by Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, on the air of the Moscow Talking radio station.
“When it comes to important issues for Russia, he did not support us in any conflict that we had with the West before, except for his own,” said the deputy who doubted the honesty of the Belarusian president.
He noted that in relations with Belarus, Moscow cannot realize its potential and induce the Union State to move in the same direction. “This applies to both the development of bilateral relations and the situation that is developing inside Belarus, that is, the internal political crisis,” Zatulin explained.
On February 22, Sochi hosted a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Belarus and Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko. It lasted over six hours. At the talks in Krasnaya Polyana, they discussed cooperation within the framework of the Union State, as well as a joint fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
