Poroshenko’s TV channel was suspected of bias and propaganda
The head of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, Olga Gerasimyuk, suspected the Pryamoy TV channel, which belongs to the head of the European Solidarity Party, Petro Poroshenko, of disseminating biased and propaganda information. It is reported by “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“Their problem is the” one-party system “of speech, party propaganda. Unfortunately it is so. They adhere to a strange position: since they are patriots, they can do what others are forbidden – to swear on the air, swear, submit biased information. I categorically do not support such a position, “Gerasimyuk said.
According to her, “Direct” already has a warning from the control body for obscene expressions on the air.
On February 18, Poroshenko bought the Pryamoy TV channel from the former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of various convocations, Vladimir Makeenko. “I paid money, a lot of money that could go to charity, to other projects, including social ones – these are millions and millions in order to cover the channel’s debts and more,” Poroshenko explained.
In early February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to block opposition TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK. After his decree, they stopped broadcasting. Personal sanctions were also imposed on the deputy from the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Taras Kozak, who owns the Novosti media holding. Later restrictions affected the chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk, his wife Oksana Marchenko, individuals and legal entities associated with them.
