Russian fighter Askar Askarov defeated American Joseph Benavidez and thus won the third consecutive victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) tournament. It is reported by Sport24.
The fight between Askarov and Benavidez lasted three rounds. At the end of the fight, the judges unanimously gave the victory to the Russian.
Earlier it was reported that Askarov did not meet the competitive weight on the eve of the tournament. He lacked 0.9 kilograms.
In total, Askarov won 13 fights, one more ended in a draw. The American fighter had 34 fights, this loss was his eighth in a row.
The main event of UFC 259 will face the reigning champions of the promotion. Israel Adesanya, who holds the middleweight title, will fight Jan Blakhovic for the belt in the light heavyweight division.
