The EU was responsible for the words about “Russian roulette” on “Sputnik V”
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) responded to the words of its chairman and representative of the Austrian Health Agency Christa Virtumer-Hohe after she announced the possibility of early admission of the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V” as “Russian roulette”. This was reported by TASS on Tuesday, March 9.
According to the agency, the EMA said that Virtumer-Hohe did not question the quality of the vaccine, but only insisted on the need to check the data on the Russian drug.
Previously, Virtumer-Hohe recommended not to allow Sputnik V, noting the lack of information on the safety and efficacy of this drug.
The creators of the Russian vaccine demanded a public apology from the author. They noted that the EMA did not allow similar assessments for other vaccines, and suggested that this was a political intervention.
Sputnik V is the first registered Russian vaccine against coronavirus, it was created on the basis of another adenovirus in which the coronavirus gene is embedded. When it enters the cells, it forms proteins in them – they cause an immune response and promote the development of antibodies. In Russia, the vaccination campaign started on December 5, 2020.
