Sevastopol leads in the growth of crime among the regions of Russia
The federal city of Sevastopol turned out to be the leader among the constituent entities of the Russian Federation in terms of the growth rate of the number of detected crimes at the end of 2020. This was reported in the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia, which published a monthly collection on the state of crime.
According to the supervisory authority, the growth of detected crimes in Sevastopol in 2020 amounted to 44%, or 6.1 thousand crimes. In absolute terms, Sevastopol is, of course, inferior to other regions.
Thus, in St. Petersburg, the increase in detected crimes for the year amounted to 26.1%, or 61.3 thousand crimes. Leningrad Region – 12.8%, or 27.4 thousand crimes.
The growth rate of the number of detected crimes in 2020 decreased in Chechnya (minus 16.9%, or 3.1 thousand crimes), North Ossetia (minus 15%, or 8.1 thousand crimes), Adygea (minus 12.4%, or 4.1 thousand crimes).
In general, the crime situation in Russia in 2020 remained stable. More than 1.6 million crimes (80.4% of the total) were committed in cities and towns during the year, the remaining 390.3 thousand were committed in rural areas. Per 100 thousand of the population, 1,393 illegal acts were recorded, of which 384 were grave and especially grave.
At the same time, over the past five years, the overall crime rate has decreased from 1608.1 to 1392.7 per 100 thousand people.
