In Kirov, the forensic expert who identified the “drunk boy” was convicted
In the Kirov region, a sentence was passed to forensic expert Sergei Nasonov, who found alcohol in the blood of a child who died in an accident. This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
“He was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code (negligence). The indictment in the criminal case was approved by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation, ”the department said.
The Urzhum District Court of the Kirov Region sentenced Nasonov to six months of correctional labor with a 5% deduction from wages to the state.
In 2019, a boy riding a bicycle was hit on a country road in the Kirov region by an SUV driven by Police Major Sergei Melnikov. Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on violation of traffic rules (part 3 of article 264 of the Criminal Code). After the accident, the media reported that 0.51 ppm of alcohol was found in the boy’s blood. The case was taken under control by the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin. He instructed to appoint repeated forensic medical examinations.
Investigators found that Nasonov began the investigation only two days after the accident. In addition, during the autopsy, the forensic expert did not seize the necessary biological materials for forensic histological examination, secretions to determine the presence and quantitative content of ethanol, as well as hair from the head for a comparative study, the UK noted. The investigators also pointed out that after receiving the results of the blood test of the child, Nasonov did not make an additional check.
