Acting head of the NSS of Armenia resigns after a month of work
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian removed Mikael Hambardzumyan from the duties of director of the National Security Service (SNB) and dismissed him from the post of deputy director. The new director of the NSS of Armenia is Armen Abazyan, deputy of Mr. Hambardzumyan.
Decrees on resignations and appointments in the NSS of Armenia are published on the website of the President of the country. The resignation of Mr. Hambardzumyan and the appointment of his successor took place at the suggestion of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
Mikael Hambardzumyan has been acting director of the National Security Service for a month, from October 8. This is the fourth dismissal of the head of the department since the appointment of Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister of Armenia. Previously, the service was headed by Artur Vanetsyan and Eduard Martirosyan.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been fighting for several days on the outskirts of the city of Shusha in Nagorno-Karabakh.
