Former Governor Belykh asked for mitigation of punishment
The ex-governor of the Kirov region, Nikita Belykh, convicted of a bribe, asked the court to replace his remaining sentence with a milder one, his lawyer Andrei Grokhotov told RBC.
The Skopinsky District Court of the Ryazan Region will consider his petition on November 26. He added that Belykh had filed a petition more than a month ago. “I will comment on the merits of the issue after the court decision,” said Grokhotov.

Belykh was detained in June 2016 in Moscow while transferring part of a bribe. According to the investigation, the ex-governor personally and through an intermediary received a bribe in the amount of € 400 thousand (24.1 million rubles).
In July, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the early termination of Belykh’s powers as governor, which he held since 2008, due to a loss of confidence.
