Almaz-Antey denies the statement of the Dutch prosecutor’s office about the failure to send a response in the MH17 case
Almaz-Antey (the manufacturer of the Buk air defense missile system) claims that the company sent a response to a request from an investigating judge in the case of the crash of Malaysian Boeing flight MH17. Earlier, Dutch prosecutor Manon Ridderbecks said that the investigating judge has not yet appointed experts from the Russian concern, since the Russian side has not responded to the request.
“We also decided to appoint Almaz-Antey experts to investigate. This is an investigation that concerns the nature of the damage and the location of the missile launch … Such an investigation was not carried out for several reasons. The investigating judge sent a request in July after contacts with the Russian authorities … until a response from Almaz-Antey was received. Therefore, the investigating judge has not yet had the opportunity to appoint experts from Almaz-Antey, ”said Manon Ridderbeks at the hearing.
As Almaz-Antey told RIA Novosti, the reply to the letter from the Dutch court on the appointment of experts in the MH17 case was sent on September 4, and confirmation was received on September 21. “Almaz-Antey denies the statement of the Dutch prosecutor’s office that the concern did not send a response as part of the investigation into the July 2014 MH17 crash. On September 4, an e-mail was sent to the investigating judge in the Netherlands in response to a request for legal assistance with information about the appointment of our investigation experts, and on September 21, a confirmation was received from the investigating judge about the receipt of our letter and the establishment of contacts, ” companies.
A Boeing 777 on flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down in the skies over Ukraine on July 17, 2014. All 298 people on board were killed. The ex-Minister of Defense of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Igor Strelkov (Girkin) and three of his subordinates – Russians Sergei Dubinsky and Oleg Pulatov, as well as Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko are involved in the case.
Hearings on the MH17 crash resumed in the Netherlands on November 3. Then the presiding judge Hendrik Steenhays said that the court sent a number of requests to Russia on the reports of the Russian concern. Representatives of Almaz-Antey presented their version of what happened. The company said that Boeing was shot down by the Buk, but was hit by an older version of the 9M38 missile with a 9N314 warhead. Missiles of this type were withdrawn from service by the Russian army in 2011, but remained at the disposal of the Ukrainian armed forces, they argued.
