Sobyanin does not plan new restrictions on the New Year holidays
Moscow authorities do not plan to tighten the measures introduced due to the spread of coronavirus or introduce additional fines during the New Year holidays, said Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. He noted that the metro and the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) will work all night from December 31 to January 1.
“We are not planning any additional restrictions, we are not planning any additional penalties and administrative sanctions,” Mr. Sobyanin said on the air of the Russia 24 channel. At the same time, he urged elderly Muscovites to “stay at home these days” and not go out into public places amid a festive mood.
There will be no massive New Year’s events in Moscow, but the metro and the MCC will work without interruption on New Year’s Eve. As explained by Mr. Sobyanin, the authorities do not want “the movement around the city to be concentrated at some pre-New Year’s hours.”
Polyclinics, social and communal services of Moscow, according to the mayor, will work in an enhanced mode. He stated that the situation with the coronavirus is “more or less stable, but stable at a high, difficult, difficult level.”
Coronavirus in Moscow was detected in 671,948 people, 9,645 patients with COVID-19 died. Over the past day, according to the federal operational headquarters, 6,730 new infected people were found in the city, 74 people died. The total number of cases in Russia exceeds 2.5 million. Earlier, vaccination of teachers, workers of social and medical organizations began in Moscow. Other regions, according to the government, have confirmed their readiness to begin vaccinations by the end of the week.
