Russia reacted to data on Hungary’s refusal of the Sputnik V vaccine
The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) has denied data from Reuters about Hungary’s refusal to buy the domestic vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus. TASS reports.
The first delivery of the vaccine took place on 28 December. RDIF also announced its readiness to fully supply all the vaccine Hungary needs in January-March 2021. “RDIF is working with regulators to obtain regulatory approvals in Hungary,” the fund said.
As Reuters previously reported, the main reason for the refusal was insufficient vaccine production capacity. As a result, the country plans to establish vaccine procurement through the EU supply mechanisms or directly from China.
Hungary’s decision to purchase a Russian vaccine first became known at the end of October. At the same time, the European Commission warned Budapest that if any of the EU countries purchases a foreign vaccine that has not passed certification, measures will be taken. They noted that vaccines developed by Russia or China will never become part of the EU’s vaccination strategy.
